Berner & Mattner, Salzgitter Mannesmann and Sandvik were some of the customer companies present at the international workshop on "Industrial Research Using Synchrotron and Neutron Methods" on Dec. 3 at the HZB in Berlin. The workshop was well received by both participants from industry and science and the discussions demonstrated the quality of research done by industry applying state of the art synchrotron and neutron methods offered at HZB.

Manuela Klaus of HZB opened the workshop with an overview on synchrotron and neutron methods applied in material research. Innovative industry research in the areas of energy storage systems and modern steel production were given by Tobias Enzenhofer (Berner & Mattner) and Ingwer Denks (Salzgitter Mannesmann). The importance of state of the art analytical techniques in product development and improvement of cutting tools were illustrated by presentations of Thorsten Manns (Walter AG) and Jose Garcia (Sandvik).
